The DULC Pre-sessional courses are primarily designed for graduate and undergraduate overseas students who plan to study at universities and other institutes in the English speaking world. Our courses have also become popular with learners who are simply looking for a demanding and stimulating course in advanced English.

Students can decide to study for one, two or three months, depending on their language level at entry. Pre-Sessional students entering academic departments in October may also continue with academic English support on (free) In-Sessional courses.

Summer class sizes are generally 10-12 maximum with 18-20 teaching hours/week. Course content typically covers the following :

There is also a free social programme, which will take students out of Durham to stunning locations in the North, such as Edinburgh and York.

Pre-Sessional students stay in one of Durham’s university colleges and have access to excellent sports facilities at the nearby Maiden Castle sports complex.

About Durham University

Durham University was voted Sunday Times University of the Year in 2005/06 and remains one of the UK’s leading institutions of higher education. It is England's third oldest university and is set in one of the most beautiful cities in the UK.

The city of Durham itself is dominated by its magnificent cathedral and castle (now a university college) and is a World heritage site, known for its tranquil riverside setting. Most parts of the city and all parts of the university are within walking distance of each other.

We are about three hours from London by rail and are also very well served by the International Airports of Newcastle and Durham Teeside.
