Course Aims

The courses are designed for overseas students coming to British Universities and other institutions of higher education for either undergraduate or postgraduate study. They aim to help students in three ways:

  1. to improve their command of English in connection with their subject areas
  2. to familiarise them with the study skills necessary for study in a British university
  3. to familiarise them with the 'social' English they will need in order to settle down and concentrate on their studies.

Students will be assessed on entry and organised into classes according to their level of English. All classes will be small ie with not more than 12 students, so that maximum individual attention can be provided.

Course Content

All courses are intensive, providing up to 23 hours of supervised work each week. In addition students will be required to complete a number of individual assignments.

Each course will include:

A wide range of course books and audio-visual materials is available for use by participants. The Language Centre has its own multimedia centre with computer internet access and extensive listening and video facilities. In addition, participants have full access to the University libraries.

A programme of excursions and social activities will be arranged. English Language support is available in the University throughout the year.

Bristol is about 1 - 11/2 hours by rail from London. The University is situated in the heart of Clifton, a pleasant shopping and residential area close to the city centre.
