The University of Essex and the ELT Centre

The University of Essex is situated in parkland just outside Colchester, England's oldest recorded town. It is surrounded by pleasant countryside but is also close to the international port of Harwich and to Stansted airport, and is less than an hour from London by train. It is a small and friendly university with a long tradition of receiving international students.

The ELT Centre (formerly EFL Unit) was established in 1976, to provide tuition and support for students in higher education coming to the University of Essex and to Britain. Students from all over the world attend the Centre's courses.

In addition to Pre-sessional courses the ELT Centre runs an English for Academic Purposes programme during the academic year, as well as a range of courses in teaching methodology for practising teachers of English from many countries. These courses are validated by the University.
