This course is designed to help students entering a British university for degree or diploma work. Our aim is to prepare students for the style of teaching and learning they will need for their academic studies, and covers the following areas:
The course is divided into two five-week blocks. Students can enrol for both Blocks, or for Block B only. There are 21 hours of tuition per week. Classes are usually of between 6 and 12 students (maximum 15).
The teaching programme includes access to the Hetherington Building,
purpose-built for language learning. There are language laboratories and
self-access audio, video, and computing facilities. Students will have
full access to the University Library which holds over 2 million items.
In addition to this accredited course, the department offers:
Pre-sessional Autumn to Spring
For students who require a longer period of study, this course runs in 3
stages over 30 weeks, and leads into the Pre-sessional Summer course.
Students should join at the stage to suit their starting level (advice
is given on our website).
EAP support classes are available to overseas students free of charge throughout the academic year.
The Unit is a Centre for the IELTS examination which is held every month.
The University was founded in 1451 and currently has some 15,000 students. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland with a population of 600,000. It has a lively cultural scene to which students are introduced by means of an extensive, optional social programme.
