Centre for English Language Education

Intensive English Language and Academic Purposes Preparation Courses

The courses are offered to international students (minimum age 18) who intend to study at a British university, but do not have English as a first language. The courses are full-time with starting dates in October, January, April, July, August and September. Course length will depend on a student's level of English as shown by a score in a recognised English language examination. Class sizes are usually no more than 12 students. Regular individual tutorials are also held to guide and support students. Our aim is to help our international students to succeed in their academic studies.

The courses include:

• Academic Writing Ð essays and dissertation
• Understanding lectures and notemaking skills
• Taking part in tutorial and seminar discussions
• Reading academic textbooks and articles
• Using libraries for study and research
• Communicating in English in social and academic situations
• Improving language proficiency Ð grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc
• Social and Cultural programmes

CELE and the University of Nottingham

CELE is well resourced with up-to-date teaching materials and equipment, including a study centre. The University is an international community with students from nearly 100 countries. As a student in CELE you will be a member of the University community on its beautiful 300-acre parkland campus. The campus is 3 miles from the centre of Nottingham with its wide range of shops, services, entertainment and culture. Nottingham's central location in the English Midlands means it is within easy access of London and other major English cities.
