The Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS) offers courses to international students preparing to enter British universities all year round. The English Language and Study Skills course runs from October to March, and the Pre-sessional course runs from April to September.
English Language and Study Skills course
This full-time course (20-23 hours a week) prepares students for academic study, with a focus on English language and study skills. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are taught for academic purposes and students may follow the course on a termly (10 week) basis.
Pre-sessional course
This is a full-time course (20-23 hours a week) running from April to September, with a new intake of students in April, July and August. The course offers intensive preparation for academic study in English language and study skills.

CALS has been offering courses in English for Academic Study to international students for over 30 years and has an excellent reputation for both the quality of teaching and the support offered to students.
Students enjoy the use of the computer laboratory, well equipped language laboratories and self-access language learning centre in the Language Resource Centre, and also have full access to the excellent study and leisure facilities that the university has to offer.
CALS is situated at Whiteknights park, one of the most attractive university campus sites in Britain. The town is 25 minutes by train from London, and 40 minutes by coach from Heathrow Airport.
