The Pre-sessional and Intensive programme at Southampton is open to international students planning to come to the UK for undergraduate or postgraduate study.

The courses aim to:

Classroom work focuses on academic writing, listening and note-taking, academic reading, grammar, pronunciation, and speaking skills and also on the techniques of study and teaching in use in Britain (eg seminars, essays, use of the library).

Students have access to all the University's leisure, sports and academic facilities including the library and computer facilities (email, the Internet and the World Wide Web).

The programme of excursions and social activities includes day trips to historic and interesting sites around Southampton and further afield (eg Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford, the Isle of Wight and other places of interest)

Southampton is situated on the south coast of England within easy reach of London. The city is one of the great European ports and has played a significant role in Britain's maritime history from the Mayflower to the Titanic. Southampton is the main cultural centre in a region that contains the ancient cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester, the prehistoric site of Stonehenge, and the picturesque New Forest. The

University of Southampton is one of the leading research-led universities in the country, with an international reputation for the quality of its work. The School of Modern Languages also offers programmes in English language and British Studies from foundation year to BA degree.
